More than any other part of East Beach, the Bay Front is the area
that truly exemplifies the historic villages and towns of the East Coast,
and in particular, the Tidewater region. The interplay between traditional
architectural elements and the natural landscape bring the coastal character
of East Beach to life. It is here that residents and guests come to enjoy
the long stretch of beach along the Bay, by way of the many paths and
bay front greens. Bay front greens provide both visual and physical access
to the bay, and also provide space for games and activities, such as
the giant chessboard on the bay front green next to the Bay Front Club.

This lovely tree-lined street is the heart of the neighborhood. The street
is graced with classic manor homes that are zoned for mixed use – either
residential or commercial – and give rise to a rich and varied
character along its length. When the development is complete, two public
squares will define addresses along the Avenue. The westernmost square
at Shore Drive will be flanked by mixed-use buildings, and serve as
the retail center and gateway into the neighborhood. On the eastern
end, the avenue splits around a civic site framed by attached and detached
houses. A series of parks along the north and south streets connect
Pleasant Avenue to the Chesapeake Bay and Pretty Lake.

The marinas along Pretty Lake Avenue provide the backdrop for the
Pretty Lake area of East Beach, a mixed-use waterfront area currently
under construction. Inspired by the historic downtown of Annapolis, the
Pretty Lake area will feature a mix of shops, restaurants, condominiums,
townhomes, and detached houses looking out over the marinas. Broad sidewalks
will encourage plenty of window-shopping, while the marinas themselves
are the perfect gathering place for boating enthusiasts and those just
out for a stroll.

The North-South Streets in East Beach have a character all
their own, with each street different from the next. Cottages, townhomes,
brownstones, and a variety of lot sizes and types provide diversity and
visual interest. The style of the homes changes as you go from north to
south, depending on the landscape. Porches and front yards encourage visiting
between neighbors. Small, informal parks with mature trees and landscaping
are connected by meandering paths. And the streets themselves connect the
Chesapeake Bay and the marinas at Pretty Lake, with each waterfront within
easy walking distance.

The westernmost portion of East Beach, adjacent to Shore Drive, will
feature a mix of retail, commercial and residential space, which will
be designed to bring the excitement and convenience of urban living into
the neighborhood. This area is planned to incorporate a mixture of retail
shops, convenient amenities, restaurants, offices and perhaps a hotel.
